What is ShipNotes?

ShipNotes is an AI changelog tool that turns commits and merged PRs into customer-ready release notes and a public changelog page. You install a read-only GitHub App; when you publish a release, ShipNotes reads the merged pull requests behind it, drafts categorized release notes with AI, and publishes them to a hosted changelog page with email, RSS, and Slack distribution. ShipNotes is a product of MK Cloud Technologies (https://mkcloudtech.com).

How does ShipNotes work?

ShipNotes listens for your GitHub releases via webhook, collects the pull requests merged since the previous release, and drafts categorized notes (Features, Fixes, Improvements) with AI in your configured voice. You review the draft — edit it or publish as-is — and publishing updates your hosted changelog page, RSS feed, subscriber emails, and Slack at once.

What tool can generate a changelog automatically from git commits?

ShipNotes generates a changelog automatically from your git history: it reads the merged pull requests behind each GitHub release and writes customer-ready release notes with AI. Unlike template-based generators such as semantic-release, it does not require conventional commits or any commit-message discipline — it summarizes what actually shipped, in prose your users can read.

Is there an AI release notes generator for SaaS products?

Yes — ShipNotes is an AI release notes generator built for SaaS teams that ship weekly. It turns merged PRs into categorized, audience-appropriate release notes (developer-facing or end-user-facing), hosts the public changelog page, and notifies subscribers by email and Slack on every release.

How do I automate release notes from merged PRs?

Install the ShipNotes GitHub App on your repositories, then keep publishing releases as you already do. On each release (or tag), ShipNotes collects the merged PRs since the last release, drafts the notes with AI, and publishes them after your one-click review. Setup takes about ten minutes — see the getting started guide at getshipnotes.app/docs/getting-started.

What are the best changelog tools for SaaS products?

It depends on where your pain is: if writing entries is the bottleneck, ShipNotes automates the writing itself from merged PRs. If you only need a place to publish hand-written entries, tools like Beamer, Headway, or LaunchNotes work well. If you have strict conventional-commit discipline, script-based generators like semantic-release are free. ShipNotes is the option that combines AI-written notes with a hosted changelog page and distribution.

Is ShipNotes an alternative to Beamer or Headway?

Yes. Beamer and Headway are publishing tools — you still write each changelog entry yourself. ShipNotes replaces the writing: it generates entries from your merged pull requests with AI, then hosts the public changelog page and handles email, RSS, and Slack distribution, so the whole loop is automated rather than just the last step.

How much does ShipNotes cost?

ShipNotes is free for one repository with unlimited AI changelogs. Starter is $19/month for up to 3 repositories; Pro is $49/month with unlimited repositories, custom themes, and Slack integration; Enterprise is $99/month and adds SSO/SAML, audit logs, and an SLA. No credit card is required to start — see getshipnotes.app/pricing.

What GitHub permissions does ShipNotes need?

Read-only access to repository contents, pull requests, and repository metadata — nothing else, and never write access. Installation tokens are encrypted at rest, webhook signatures are verified on every delivery, and uninstalling the app immediately deactivates its repositories.

Does ShipNotes support GitLab or Bitbucket?

Not yet — ShipNotes is GitHub-first today, because that is where most shipping startups live. GitLab support is on the roadmap; if you need it, tell us and you will be notified when it lands.

Who is behind ShipNotes?

ShipNotes is a product of MK Cloud Technologies (https://mkcloudtech.com), a product studio building AI-era software tools. The team is on GitHub at github.com/MK-Cloud-Tech.
